Meet Personal Stylist Danielle Mckenzie!
Interviewed by Holmag.INC
What is the best way to describe what you do for a living? Introduce yourself.
Hello everyone. My name is Danielle. I help women elevate their current style. This style shows their businesses and fits their lifestyle. I also help give tips on how to enhance women’s confidence through the clothing they wear.
How do you find your clients?
I find clients multiple ways. My biggest platforms have been social media and self-promotion. I also use a very helpful app called Thumbtack which a fellow stylist introduced me to. This has provided me with great clientele. It’s a great way to showcase what services I offer and for potential clients to see my work.
Has social media helped you market your skills?
Social media has helped me market my skills a lot. I started to gain a good audience from my social media platforms and connected with other personal stylists. I also joined online groups for aspiring stylists and new business owners. Self-promotion is the best way to make a name for yourself. It lets people know what your business is all about. That way you can showcase how your services can help your target market.
What is your description of current trends? How do you create your own trends?
Fashion trends will always come and go. They are hard to pin down. This is the one great thing about trends. I love seeing which trends will resurface over the years. that’s why I make my own trends by taking inspiration from fashion platforms—like Instagram and Pinterest—that really speak to me. I add my own flares or twists to make them my own.
What is most important to you when styling a client?
The most important thing to me is making sure that clients feel one hundred percent comfortable during a styling session. Consultation are always a judgment-free zone. My main focus is to find their style struggles. I aim to fix them by providing new ways to transform their wardrobe. Additionally, I want the client to love how they look and feel with their appearance. “When you look good, you feel good” is a motto I live by.

Have you had the opportunity to style a well-known public figure?
I have not had the opportunity to style a well-known figure yet. Still, I am hopeful that in the future I will get the chance. The ultimate goal is to become a well-known name in the styling industry. I aim to work with clients all over the world.
Are you working independently or with a fashion firm?
I am working independently, but I am open to working with a styling firm. This would help me gain more exposure, clientele, and connections within the industry. It is really all about who you know in the fashion world.
Would you consider taking your skills to television? Or will you continue using social media as your platform?
I would consider taking my styling skills to television if the opportunity presents itself. It would be a great experience to work as a stylist for television shows. It would also be fantastic to share my story with the world through a larger platform.
How would you style different body types like those of Keke Palmer, Viola Davis, or Michelle Obama?
I would style someone with a body type like Michelle Obama by considering her hourglass shape. For example, she has a more athletic body type with broader shoulders. She also has curvier hips. I would recommend styling her in dresses that would accentuate her figure in a flattering way. I would also suggest pairing blazers. Cardigans will soften the appearance. These will camouflage her broader shoulders for a more feminine look. Those are the things I consider when styling anyone.
Do you have a specific age group that you usually style?
My age group or target audience is women in their early 20s to mid-40s. I focus on assisting women who work in the corporate world or have their own businesses.
What do you wish to accomplish with this interview?
I wish to gain more exposure. I want to reach a broader audience. This will show what I do. My styling services can help women’s lives in a positive way. I love what I do and I wish to help more women rediscover their confidence through their personal style.
