The Path to Photography

Being a part of those special moments inspired me. Capturing them to tell a story drove me to pursue a career in photography. I get invited to all the parties I probably would have been apart of anyway!

To me, photography is an ’emotion.’ Being able to capture emotions in its rawest form is key to defining my photography style. I allow my viewers to tap into that very moment, without actually being there. I would describe it in three words as Emotional, Exciting, Dope (laughs).

When it comes to my creative process, I try to build a rapport with them before the shoot. I get to know them a little more than I probably need to. That way, I have a better understanding of what they want within their imagery and so on.

Milestones and Challenges

Do I remember my first shoot? Yes, with a random model that didn’t know how to model! I wanted to be like other photographers and shoot hot models. Now when I look back at the shoot, I can tell you it was a terrible start. I’ve seen similar work from other photographers (laughs). A pivotal moment usually happens when I know it will evoke emotion. This can range from laughter to annoyance, fierceness, or even tiredness. Every aspect of how the individual feels during a photo session can bring out those subtle yet impactful moments.

So far, the biggest challenge has been building my personal brand and redefining my images’ look and style. I have a whole new image and am learning as I progress through these challenges.

Advice and Projects

The best advice I can give is to find photographers. Look for professionals whose style you love. Study their aesthetics. Learn how they edit, what time of day they shoot, what equipment they use, and why they use it. Necessarily, you’ll get a mentor, and hopefully, they will be willing to guide you through your photographic journey.

I am currently doing some charity work and events in Jamaica, since that’s where I am from. I get involved with organizations that help children and ensure they have school supplies. They also make sure kids have the clothes and shoes they need to go to school.

For my work, I want to capture every moment, both subtle and impactful. While on set, when do we find pivotal moments to take those memorable shots? Thank you for noticing!
