The design district has received a new face in the past few years. If you haven’t been, you should just drive by just to see the latest developments. This creative neighborhood and shopping destination is dedicated to innovative fashion and design lovers, art and architecture lookers, and great dining! Two free-to-the-public museums are open, along with new stores ranging from ultra-luxury (Gucci) to urban and hip (Rag & Bone).

Since March, the restaurants have been cooking, and the theaters have been screening cult and classic films since August. You can easily spend a whole day in the design district if you have a free day, that is. The area is actually still growing. Last we went, we gallery-hopped and grabbed food on the go from the food truck area right at the heart of the district.

While there is criticism of gentrification in the area that used to be considered part of Little Haiti, local creatives can find opportunities at every district block. Word on the street is that this five block or so development might be just what South Florida needs to compete with the thriving cities in other states such as New York and California.

The pioneer of the initiative, Craig Robins, is doing just that. The 54 years old South Floridian has a reputation for transforming cities into hot spots since back in the nineties; giving it a go this new century in this digital era might be ideal for getting our head off our screens. laughs

In any case, come by and see for yourself. You will either love it because of the variety of activities available or hate it because of the parking situation. Either way, you can be the judge.

Just keeping it real!
